Randy and I wanted to ride our Harleys to Phoenix in November, 2007 for the Crossroads of the West Gun Show.
This show makes the Commiefornia gun shows pale by comparison. It's sad that we have to ride so far to get
back to America. It did turn out to be one of the rainiest weekends of the entire year. Good test of our
rain gear. The rain wasn't too bad for most of the ride out, but once we reached Wickenburg, about 15 miles from our
destination, all hell broke loose. Making it worse was that we were then stuck in stop-and-go traffic.
We got drenched. It lasted for a couple days. Unfortunately, because of the rain, we didn't get any photos
until we were back in the land of fruits and nuts. Early Sunday morning we headed home. It was dry, but near freezing (38°F), so we got to test the cold-weather
fighting capabilities of our gear too. Good thing the rest stops had those hot-air hand dryers. It was nice to get
feeling back into the fingers. Lasted about 3 minutes. But this was to be test ride to see what adjustments we'd
need to make before making a 7,000 mile cross-country ride, so the adverse elements were (almost) welcome. |
Patton Museum: | |
On the way back, just East of Palm Springs, we stopped at the General George Patton Desert Museum.
This is a stop we don't usually get to make if the ladies are with us, so we took advantage of being
without our better halves to enjoy a bit of WWII history. There's another George Patton Museum at Fort Knox,
Kentucky. We're planning on stopping there this summer. That's probably a bigger museum, but this is where
Patton desert-trained his Tank Corp. to kick Rommel's butt. |
