Fall 2008 - Four Weeks in Italy
Venice

Day Seven - Exploring Venice:

After a great European-style breakfast, we headed out to meet our local guide. After the initial guided tour, we had the rest of the day to get lost in Venice (which is quite easy).

Check out the official Venice web site at: City of Venice.

I found a really good site that has 360° panning videos of many of Venice's wonders. Check it out at: Venice.

One of the architectural highlights of Venice is Saint Mark's Cathedral. Learn more about it at: Truly Venice.

There's a pretty cool clock next to the Piazza of Saint Mark. Two huge brass men swing their mallets to ring the bells. The two men who designed the clock were rewarded by having their eyes burned out and their tongues cut-off by the Doge (or Doxe, but not Dodge) to ensure his clock would be unique. Nice guy. Learn more about Doges at: Wikipedia - Doge.
