Day Seventeen - The Vatican:
Renaissance Rome. Started early and devoted the day to Catholic Rome, visiting Saint Peter's Basilica,
the immense Vatican Museum, and the brilliantly restored Sistine Chapel. Afterwards, we had a late lunch and spent the rest of the day to climb the Spanish Steps,
toss coins in fountains, and enjoy Rome under the stars. |
Walking Around Rome: | |
After the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter's Basilica and Square, we were ready for lunch.
As an option, most of us followed Ferdi to a local place behind the Vatican,
followed by a healthy dose of vitamin "G". Then we were off to the Spanish Steps. The top of the Spanish Steps basically lead to the back of the Villa Borghese park.
The park is huge and full of monuments, hiking and biking trails, and umbrella pines. |
End of the Rick Steves Tour:
It was our final night together with the Rick Steves group.
We had our last dinner as a tour group that evening.
I can't help but be appreciative for Ferdi, Juan and all our great team of local guides. I'm thankfull for all the many wonderful people we've met.
I'm sad that I didn't spend as much time with some of them as I might have.
I would gladly travel with all of them again. Good times - thanks Rick! Our Italy trip doesn't end here, though.
For Pam, Debbie, Wayne and I, we're going to be around for another ten days. We're going to be in Rome another day, then we're heading to Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, a farm in Sora, and Volterra.
