Fall 2008 - Four Weeks in Italy
Sora Farm Stay

Day Twenty-Two: Sora Farm Stay:

Day Twenty-Two Sora:

We took a short train ride to Naples and then jumped on a bus to Sora. Along the way, we passed by Monte Casino, a Monestary way up on a mountaintop. The Germans held the high ground there in WWII. Thirty thousand headstones populate the nearby cemetery. It was a bloody mess.

We didn't get a chance to go to the Monestary, but we got a few photos of it when we passed by on the bus. Most of today was a travel day, so there's only a few photos.

For more about Monte Cassino, see: Monte Cassino.

For more about the Battle of Monte Cassino and the Gustav Line, see: Battle of Monte Cassino.

The town of Sora is famous for its wood furniture. For more about Sora, go to: Sora.

Monte Casino Was Keeping the Allies Pinned-Down

The Monestary Was Literally Leveled to Dust in WWII
The allies tried to avoid this, but it turned out
to be the only way to get the Germans to leave.
