Fall 2008 - Four Weeks in Italy

Day Twenty-Three: Sora:

Day Twenty-Three - Hike Into Sora:

We walked through the woods into the town of Sora today. There were no Lions, Tigers, or Bears, but there were two little dogs that followed us into town and back. We probably walked about nine miles round trip (I verified that) and these two locals guided us there and back. Sora is a beautiful little town with a decent-sized river running through it.

It's surrounded by mountains and farms. It's between Cassino and Rome and probably isn't highlighted on any tourist sites. Perfect! I think we must have been in town on a Sunday as all the locals were walking about dressed to the nines.

Day Twenty-Three - Pasta-Making:

The farm we stayed in, Sora Farm Stay offers horseback riding, cooking classes, and/or will help you with any plans you may way to execute.

Wayne and I signed-up for Maria's pasta-making class. We both cook occasionally even though it's like pulling teeth for Pam to get me to do it. It's not foreign to me - I'd just rather do something else. I did want to learn how to make pasta, though, because I've never done it.

So you pile some flour on a big cutting board, make a volcano-shaped opening in it, crack a couple eggs into it, then start folding the eggs into the flour. Next, you fold some more, add flour, fold some more, sit down, turn around, give the dog a bone.

Once you get it to a workable texture, you roll it into a thin pancake. Of course you must wash your hands first, and wash, and chisle, pour gas on your hands and light on fire, wash some more, and then you might have some of that glue off your hands. Nasty stuff.

Roll up your pancake, cut into strips, lay out in a pan and then throw it in boiling water. Yer done!
