Day One - Touchdown Madrid: | |
We really didn't do anything in Madrid but ooze off the plane.
Forty tired creatures were then introduced to our tour manager/guide Kim.
We boarded the bus with minimal use of the cattle prod and were soon off to historic Segovia. After checking into our rooms, we got the first real view of the impressive Roman Aqueduct.
It's an architectural marvel built by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago.
Too bad we forgot how to build like that. It runs through the middle of town - it must have good shoes.
In the afternoon, we toured the fairytale Alcázar, a castle dating from the 12th century.
The Alcázar is where Isabella first met Ferdinand and where Philip II married his fourth wife, Anne of Austria. Inside the Alcázar, we found the replicas of Isabella and Ferdinand's thrones.
Inside the Battlements of the once-impregnable castle is a tower, originally built by Isabella's father as a prison. |
